I completed my internal medicine residency at NYU, training at Bellevue Hospital, the oldest public hospital in the United States and one that cares for a population as varied as New York City itself. In three years there I saw nearly every disease I had read about and many I hadn't. There is no faster way to build a deep fund of knowledge, and no substitute for it. While at NYU I was also involved in research on HIV associated nephropathy.

I then completed two additional years of nephrology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, caring for some of the most complex patients in medicine: people on dialysis, kidney transplant recipients, and patients with severe electrolyte and acid base disturbances where small errors have immediate consequences. My clinical research at Duke examined the treatment of anemia in chronic kidney disease with erythropoiesis stimulating agents.

I trained at two of the most demanding institutions in American medicine, and that is not incidental to how I practice. Bellevue and Duke select for depth and they do not let you coast. That training is what I bring to complicated patients, the ones with several conditions at once, long medication lists, and problems that do not fit neatly into a single specialty. You learn to read laboratory values as a story rather than a list, to dose every medication with the kidney in mind, and to recognize decline early enough to do something about it. My patients have a primary care physician who is also a specialist in the organ system that quietly drives blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, and medication safety.

I have practiced internal medicine and nephrology since 2008, first for ten years in Jacksonville, then as a hospitalist at AdventHealth after my family moved to Orlando. Caring for patients at their sickest showed me plainly what a difference it makes to have a physician who knows you before the crisis.

Today I own a concierge internal medicine and nephrology practice. My patients have my time, my attention, and direct access to me. It is a smaller panel by design, and it lets me practice thoroughly, unhurried, with continuity that lasts years rather than visits.

Central Florida is home now. My husband and I are raising our three children in Maitland, and I find there is something particular about practicing in the community where you live, caring for the same families year after year and watching them grow.
